Chatting with Rustic Peppermint about Natural Beauty and Veganism!

In the November box we featured the Rustic Peppermint Floral White Clay mask and a few of the most recent mini-boxes have been luckier enough to receive the beautiful sugary body polish from Rustic Peppermint.

Rustic Peppermint is vegan and uses all natural ingredients. Their products are simply beautiful, not only do they smell amazing but they also make your skin glow, create a more consistent skin tone and reduce breakouts.

We interviewed Steph and asked what her best skincare tips are, why natural beauty is the way to go and which Rustic Peppermint product she likes best!

How did Rustic Peppermint Start?

It started from our love of all things Vegan and Natural, a need for knowledge and a deeper, understanding of what goes into our bodies and our home. The world of veganism brought with it the necessity to read the labels on every product, which sparked our awareness of ingredients that we couldn’t pronounce on the skincare products we were using. We began to research how we could replace these highly processed products containing synthetic preservatives with natural vegan alternatives.Not long after that we stumbled upon the wonderful world of essential oils, which opened us up to endless possibilities.We found a brand which really impressed us by their quality control and utmost purity, and combined that with our love for Veganism, a healthier way of life and eliminating chemicals. That’s when our wonderful business Rustic Peppermint sprouted!

Why did you choose to create a skincare brand focused on natural, vegan products?

We felt the need to understand ingredients and what’s actually going onto our skin so we started to change small things that we had control over and experiment with making products like lip balms, cleaning/room sprays and deodorants, which led to an obsession with changing everything skin and body care related. So we created a range based on quality natural ingredients, that is focused on being 100% Vegan. It originally started just for ourselves but after sharing with friends and family and getting some awesome feedback we decided it was something that we wanted to share with the world.

What is your number one beauty tip?

Follow a Skincare regime!! Each step is just as important as the next. Cleansing, exfoliating and using a mask is paramount for good skin. Cleanse daily to remove everyday dirt and excess oil. Exfoliate and apply a mask 1-2 times per week. (Also remember you are what you eat: so the more unhealthy food you eat that will show on your face. (Oily food= Oily skin) And drink plenty of water!

What one thing (beauty related) do you wish people would stop doing?

This question I need to answer in 2 parts: I wish people would stop clogging their pores with lots of foundation. They will be surprised if they let their skin breathe for long enough and use the correct skincare. Trust me, I was a foundation lover for about 16 years until I realized my skin actually looks fresher and more youthful without it. (I don’t mind a few blemishes here and there). Also.. I wish people would stop buying makeup/skincare based on great Advertising and be more conscious of what skincare/makeup they buy. They can get consumed by brand names and marketing and don’t actually read ingredients or research them. A product may tell you it’s Natural or Vegan on the front but if you turn it over to read the listed ingredients – it can be quite scary. We were those people before Rustic Peppermint and going Vegan. Now that we know better, we want to educate others to buy consciously.

Tough question, but what is your favourite Rustic Peppermint product and why?

That’s a VERY tough question! I mean… that’s like choosing a favourite child when you have about 15! Haha. OK….Well I think my mind changes as I make new products and get really excited by them… I am in love with my new Oil Cleanser (coming soon). My skin is in EXCELLENT condition and I love the way it feels during and after cleansing. I also think using our Tea Tree Scrub and one of our Clay Masks weekly has made a huge difference on my skin. (Our new Pink Lavender mask is a close second). My wife’s number one product is the deodorant!

What can we see from Rustic Peppermint in the future?

We have a few more tricks and ideas up our sleeve including a delicious Chocolate Mask and an awesome Natural Sun Screen. But beyond just new products… as always, an unwavering commitment to quality and the very best service for our customers!
